We are often asked what equipment we use to capture photos. To the point, this blog would be nothing without our reliable gear. Every situation can differ on what lens or device we use. Having an array of choices help us capture those special moments, forever. Which is why we think sharing our gear list can help create an idea of getting the most out of any endeavor.

We’ve put together an easy clickable list of our photography gear that directs you to a link where you can purchase them! Most are affiliate links to help support the blog. Mahalo for reading and the never-ending support!

CAMERA AND LENSES

Canon EOS 5D Mark IV

Had this since the end of 2016 and it never lets us down for whatever shot we are trying to get. It is a bit bulky and can get heavy with a bigger lens. From my experience shooting along the salty ocean breeze, and gentle tropical rain, it has been a solid piece of equipment that has no degradation in quality over many uses across a few years. We also carry an extra battery for this camera.

Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L

The most versatile lens we use on an everyday basis. It has never made us regret having it and with its wide range, has helped us capture our visions flawlessly. Highly recommend this one lens.

Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 STM

Great for that crispy-quality, up-close, food shots. Great for portrait and any foodie’s repertoire.

Canon EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III

A fun beginner zoom lens but helps get the shot! All the surfing shots on this blog were shot with this zoom lens.

DRONE

DJI Mavic 2 Zoom

A portable drone we use for every trip that can fit in our travel backpack or quick-grab and go case. Quality drone worth every penny. Great for shooting aerial shots and epic B-roll videos.

GO PRO

GoPro HERO7 Black

All things adventure and water related. This amazing little thing can be tossed around, yet, still function with all the memories intact. Our go-to adventure camera whenever we can’t take the Canon!

SD CARDS

PNY Micro SD 32GB Class 10 (our main micro SD card)
Samsung SD 64BG Pro Class 10 (our main SD card for the Canon, it’s also available in micro sd cards)
Sandisk Micro SD Adapter (to import the micro SD card)

Tip: When buying an SD Card, we only go with the Class 10 which is high performance and high speed!

HDE Waterproof Memory Card Travel Case to store all of the SD cards. This is great for traveling!

These are other accessories we use for SD Cards to read on our Macbook.

TRIPOD

JOBY Tripods

JOBY Tripods are great for vlogging, selfies, and taking group photos. When traveling, this is our go-to tripod because it’s very light and easy to use!

Vanguard VEO 235AB Tripod

Reliable tripod we’ve used in all types of scenarios. As I type this, sand is in its grove and is rusty at the base screws from all the beach going we do but it’s holding up pretty solid.

BACKPACK AND CASES

Lowepro Flipside Trek BP 450

This backpack has been our absolute favorite since we first received it in 2017. In fact, when this bag was stolen in Costa Rica (LINK), we order a new one right away! It has been on many ventures through all weather conditions. It can fit all the gear listed above this paragraph!

Polar Pro Mavic Compact Carry Case

A hand-carried case for when we are on the go and don’t want to bring our big backpack.

POWER BANK

Mophie powerstation PD XL

We always bring these on any trip. In fact, I can’t recall a trip where we didn’t bring at least one of these portable chargers. From our experience, a full battery has kept two iPhones charged all day. Approximately, 2.5 iPhone X charges.

Mophie mini power bank w/cable

These are smaller and can fit in a purse and has only charged my phone to 75% with use so possibly a full charge if your phone is dead.

Although, we have outdated equipment it goes to show how long and reliable the mophie power banks are. We’ve used ours for a couple of years now and it still works flawlessly, just a little wear and tear on the pull out cable on the mini power bank.

EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE

Seagate Fast HD Portable Drive 4TB

For all our camera pictures. Years worth of memories with no lag.

Western Digital Portable Drive 4TB

For all our videos and a backup for the Seagate.

Both External Portable Hard Drives are great tools to have. We store one at home and while we travel we bring the Seagate. It’s best to have contingency plans for all your work; upload everything before any trips.

EDITING SOFTWARE

Adobe Lightroom (Adobe photography package)

All of our photos are run through Adobe Lightroom before it’s posted on social media.

Final Cut Pro

All of our vlogs and drone videos are edited with this app.

HEADPHONES

These are the two headphones we currently use. It’s great for traveling! Especially, the sony headphones since it’s noise cancelling – perfect for flights.

MACBOOK AND IPHONE

Macbook Pro13″
Mary’s primary laptop.

MacBook Air 13.3″
Reid’s primary laptop.

Without these two electronics, we wouldn’t be where we are today with our blog and social media! Even our photos and videos would be for not if it wasn’t for these helpful tools!

iPhone X and iPhone XS

iPhones and MacBooks work together seamlessly. There is no worrying on how to import, edit, export. They are user-friendly and are top-of-the line quality in build. I also would like to mention how reliable they are. Apple products are just great and once we converted, we have never looked back without a second thought!

That does it! Our expansive list of things we use to capture all the content for the blog in one post! We will continue to be adding and updating this list every time we change our gear. Mahalo!
