When there’s a holiday or event to celebrate, we’re all for it! We search high and low for events in the area wherever we are whether at home or traveling. If you’re here in Oahu for Cinco de Mayo, then check out these events going around on the island:

1. CINCO DE MAYO AT SALT

Salt at Our Kaka’ako is one of our favorite spots to go for coffee or brunch. This transformed area is hip and fun to hang out at. We haven’t been here for the nightlife but it seems like an exciting place with bars and restaurants! This might be the place we’ll check out for Cinco De Mayo.

Cover Charge: FREE!

What: 5 p.m., music from Eddie Ortiz and Son Caribe, followed by El Mariachi Loco | 8 p.m. Fun games, a limbo contest, chihuahua costume contest, prize giveaways, a Don Julio Tequila Shot Station and Tequila Margaritas, and more.

2. CINCO DE BUHO

We love this place! They have amazing Mexican food and delicious drinks. It’s a rooftop restaurant in Waikiki with such great vibes! Check out our review of Buho Cantina, here!

3. CINCO DE MAYO PARTY AT OMG

OMG (Oahu Mexican Grill) is probably the earliest Mexican restaurant to open! Also, how clever is that name!? They open at 7 am and will be celebrating Cinco de Mayo until closing at 10 pm.

What: Raffles prizes, salsa dancing, and music by DJ Toshi.

4. SKY WAIKIKI’S FIEST DE MUSTACHE

Sky Waikiki is one of the best rooftop restaurant (19th floor), lounge, and nightclub. It has incredible views of Waikiki, especially for sunset! There are two events going on which is sunset specials and late night specials.

Cover Charge: Free admission all night for mustaches & ponchos or get on the guestlist for FREE, here!

What: 5pm-9pm: the golden hour with Sunset Specials. | 10pm-2am: Win $500 for having the BEST MUSTACHE! Enjoy Don Julio tequila specials $10 shots & cocktails.

5. FILIPINO FIESTA

If you’re into Filipino food, this is an event worth checking out! A fiesta filled with Filipino food, games, activities, and entertainment. It starts at 9 am, perfect to start the day!

6. HAWAII BOOK & MUSIC FESTIVAL

A unique event held annually that’s all about books and music! There will be storytelling, music, and books for sale at the event. Mainly, to raise awareness of Hawai‘i’s multicultural heritage through its literary and musical arts.

What: Event filled with books and music.

7. FIESTA FUN RUN 5K

This event is only open to military families, unfortunately. It’s a fun run, great for family and kids to do a 5k. Prizes and certificates will be given to 1st place winners in each category. 2nd and 3rd place finishers will be awarded certificates.
