Buying groceries from the local farmers market is a great way to save money while enhancing your stay with nice, family cooked meal. Visiting the beach is at the top of the list of free things to do in Hawaii. Some days can be wasted away on the shores, but for the rest of the time, there are many other things you can get around to doing. Hiking and the great outdoors are another option. Many activities are cheap, but if you plan it right, you can find great discounts or even free excursions.

PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION

Rental cars average around $100+ USD a day, which may not be the best solution to your transportation needs. Public transportation is a great way of getting around. Oahu has a new rail system in development which will be of great use to many in the future. But, for the time being, the bus, Lyft, Uber, and depending on your location, some free shuttle services are the best ways of getting around. Some accommodations even allow free bike rentals which is the most intimate way of getting around.

If you can live like a king while visiting Hawaii, sticking to a budget can still help you experience life a little more thoroughly. If you are a backpacker and have $2.00 to your name, budgeting is a way of life. In either circumstance, a budget can’t hurt and in some ways, may provide a wholesome experience than balling out.
