After spending a few hours at the beach in Kailua, we were starving and wanted to try a new spot. We drove around Kailua and stopped at Kono’s Restaurant. We featured Kono’s on our “10 Best Places to Eat in North Shore” because of the great reviews. Being that we haven’t tried it out, it was time to see for ourselves!

Kono’s Restaurant has a few spots on the island such as Kailua, Haleiwa (North Shore), and Kapahulu. As mentioned, we stopped by at their location in Kailua. The fast-food industry is inundated with unhealthy options but at Kono’s, they are revolutionizing the industry with nutritional, quickly made, dishes. Of course, you can’t forget to spoil yourself with their hand-crafted milkshakes!

During our visit, there was a long line, almost to the door! Also, all of the tables were taken (there were only a few being that it wasn’t a big restaurant). The line didn’t take too long, it was a perfect time for us to look at their menu and choose our order. Once we ordered, there were a few tables open.

Kono’s had a lot of milkshake flavors to choose from! All sounded amazing, it was hard to choose! The first thing I ordered was their Lava Flow Milkshake which had a blend of pineapple, strawberry, and coconut. It was delicious, I could’ve had seconds! Definitely will be coming back for this very soon.

For Kono’s food menu, they offer a lot of different options from plates, wraps, sandwiches, bagels & biscuits, and bombers. It’s no wonder this place gets great reviews and rating, they cater to everyone and have a twist of local food in their dishes!

Up first, Old School Sandwich which has Kalua pig, guava bbq, grilled onion, and slaw. It also comes with Hawaiian kettle chips and a small slice of pineapple for that local touch.

Next, Kapahulu Tacos with Kalua pig, guava bbq, slaw, tomato, onion, and cheese on two crunchy tacos. With salsa and a small slice of pineapple. I had a bit of the taco to taste and it was delicious and so crunchy!

Lastly, my dish was the Hawaiian Bowl. It had Kalua pig, cabbage, rice, guava bbq, and a small slice of pineapple. Drizzle the guava bbq all over the bowl and it was scrumptious!

This hot sauce bar next to the drink station was genius! I’m not a fan of hot sauce but Kono’s hot sauce flavors sound awesome!

The only con about Kono’s that I noticed was their small portions. If you’re looking for a quick bite, this is a great place as their food and milkshakes are very tasty and flavorful! But if you’re really hungry for a meal, you might want to order two different dishes to satisfy your hunger.
