Here’s a little more detailed look at our trip to the beautiful New York City. During our four days in the big apple, we visited a few places that may be beneficial to those that are first-time visitors! We put together 10 free places to visit, 10 places to see for the first time visits, and best food places to eat in the city. Within four days, we managed to do that and more!

Food Places

As one of our new blog series, we shared the best food places in New York City. Check it out, here.

Transportation

During our four day trip, we managed to get around without having to rent a car. The busy city is full of people and what seemed like more cars than humans! Traffic all day and night. Taking an uber, lyft, and taxi is a few options to get around. The best way we got around, and how locals in the city get around, is using good ole public transportation, better known as the subway. It’s simple to get around the city, taking the subway is the easiest and most efficient way.

DAY 1

Hotel

We arrived late afternoon, just a little after check-in time. We found ourselves lucky enough to stay right in Times Square; literally a block away from all the lights and billboards. We could see all the lights from our hotel room. For a detailed review of our hotel, check it out here – InterContinental Times Square.

Times Square

After settling in the hotel, we decided to go out at night and enjoy the city life. We walked to Times Square and saw the famous red staircase. The city closes Times Square at night, closing off any car traffic. We then headed over to Lady M Cake Boutique and bought a few cheesecake flavors and ate it at Times Square while participating in my favorite pass time: people watching. Best way to experience the city!

DAY 2

Flat Iron Building

In the morning, we took the subway and visited the Flat Iron building. There’s a lot of things around the area and this was one of the main spots we walked through.

Madison Square Park

After taking the subway, there’s a lot of walking involved in the City. We also stopped by Madison Square Park during our walk.

Empire State Building

One of the main attractions during our trip was our visit to the empire state building. We went to the very top and saw the amazing view! This attraction is included in the New York Pass, one out of the nine things to do in the New York City through the pass.

9/11 Memorial + Oculus

After the Empire State Building, we visited the 9/11 Memorial and Oculus building. The last time Mary visited this area was when she was seven years old (1997) and was on the viewing deck of the South Tower.

Kaki Cheesecake

After a few activities, we picked up one of the most famous cheesecakes around. Keki cheesecake is known for its jello like cheesecake. It’s so moist and buttery! Definitely, a must try while in the city. If you’re a cheesecake lover, like me, you’ll love this spot!

Washington Square Park

After the visit to the memorial, we headed to Washington Square Park and hung out at the park. It was filled with college students and locals just hanging out!

DAY 3

Park Central Hotel

Early morning, we headed over to check out Park Central Hotel which is right next to Central Park. We met up with a friend and had breakfast around the area.

Central Park

Of course, we couldn’t leave the area without walking around Central Park and exploring at least a part of the area. We saw many bikers, skaters, street performers, horses (carriages), and so much more! It’s so lively. Central Park is so full of life. We know exactly where to stay the next time we visit the city!

FIfth Avenue

Close to Central Park is Soho and fifth avenue. We only passed by the fifth avenue and saw there were a healthy amount of luxury shopping stores! We also stopped at Ladurrees while exploring the avenue.

DAY 4

Staten Island Ferry

On our last day, we hopped on the Staten Island Ferry to check out the Statue of Liberty. If you’re looking to see Lady Liberty for free, this is the best way to do it! The ride roundtrip took about an hour.

High Line

After the ferry ride, we checked out the High Line since it was recommended by one of our friends that lives in the city. It’s a beautiful place which overlooks the entire island It was an old railroad which is now turned into a nice hangout place and garden with local eateries.

Chelsea Market

Right next to the high line is Chelsea Market. I wish we didn’t visit this place on the last day. This place is food heaven! Lots of local restaurants in one building. There’s also some shopping inside Chelsea Market.

Rockefeller – Top of the Rock

To end the night, we headed over to Rockefeller Center to do the Top of the Rock attraction. We visited right at sunset and it was beautiful! Seeing the city with sunset colors was the best way to see the City for the last night.

Spending a few days in the city was such a wonderful time! Being able to see most of the things on our to-do list in just four days was perfect. We can’t wait to go back and check more things on our to-do list such as the Brooklyn Bridge and so much more. We hope you enjoyed this four-day itinerary and hope it will help with your planning to see the famous concrete jungle!
