Nightmares Live at Dole Plantation featured two terrifying exclusives: House of Nightmares (a horrifying haunted house) and Nightmare Express, a spine-chilling train ride accompanied by hair-raising ghost stories. Our first attraction was the Nightmare Express.

THE NIGHTMARE EXPRESS

The train ride was nothing more than a smooth ride through the pitch black pineapple fields as scary stories played on the intercom. The creepy music while boarding definitely gets you in the mood to be scared. A few great things that could have been added were some Halloween decorations like jack-o-lanters, cobwebs, props, etc. There was nothing added besides music. There were no actors either. Another thing is that the stories seemed made up…a simple google search of locations and incidents indicating that it did not happen. The least that could have been done was a history of some horrific real life murders and added some story of “this man still haunts these grounds to this day…” However, it was very family oriented and children who can comprehend stories would most likely leave holding their mom and dad tighter than boarding. I’d say the best part is the night sky. The entire ride is pitch black so on a clear night the Heavens open up and stars not normally seen are in perfect view – now that was a sight to behold. Unfortunately, the reason the train ride was such a let down was due to lack of volunteers.

If the train ride was a let down, doing the House of Nightmares was the complete opposite. Props were absolutely stunning; they were very lifelike and we had a hard time deciphering if certain figures were real or not. This attraction definitely had us jumping more than any other event so far due to the complete darkness inside. It made it a lot easier for the actors to scare us. Some actors were so well disguised we looked right in the exact spot they were hiding without identifying them. Curtains were used well in this attraction; it aided tremendously in the scare tactics and made it hard to prepare yourself for the ‘scare’.

Location: Dole Plantation, 64-1550 Kamehameha Hwy, Wahiawa, HI 96786

Dates: Every Friday and Saturday; Oct. 9, 10, 16, 17, 23, 24, 30, and 31 (7pm-11pm)

Prices: Through Oct. 15, individual pre-sale tickets for the haunted house are discounted to $11, while pre-sale tickets for the train are $8 when purchased online. Starting Oct. 16, pre-sale tickets purchased online are $13 for the haunted house and $10 for the train.
Walk-up, On-site Ticket Sales General admission: Same-day tickets are $13 for the haunted house when purchased at Dole Plantation. Same-day tickets for the train are $10 each.
Military and HGEA members who present membership identification cards will receive $3 off each ticket on Oct. 9, 10, 16 and 17.

Tip: Children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult.
