Our last trip was an international flight to Costa Rica in late July. So when writing this post, it was around 5 months since we’ve been anywhere other than Oahu. By this time, that travel bug was biting hard. Luckily, as fate would have it, our urge to travel coincided with racked up free-flyer points, just enough to make it to Maui, a neighbor island in the State of Hawaii. It would only be our second time visiting Maui since we began this blogging journey which made this upcoming trip even more exciting.
It’s always wonderful visiting a neighbor island (we still have yet to visit Lana’i, Moloka’i, Kahoʻolawe, and Niʻihau). Oahu is known to most locals as the city island whereas the rest of the islands are still in major development stages leaving it relatively untouched so, even a mini vacation to a neighbor island can be refreshing for our soul. We took advantage of the opportunity during Thanksgiving.

Landon also had the opportunity to be with us but felt dedicated to his studies and didn’t want to miss a day at school. He’s also been to Maui a couple of times since and didn’t feel like seeing the same things.
We wished he came but it worked out well as we stayed at Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa. Stepping onto the property immediately made it feel more romantic. It’s a pretty big premise, consisting of three buildings with multiple pools for different age groups.

As soon as we landed we drove across Maui, passing Olowalu (our last adventure on Maui), and reached Lahaina, the Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa in about 45 minutes from Kihei airport. Our car was taken care of by the valet and after checking in – we were given a small tour, a welcome lei, and map of the area. We then headed up to our Ocean View Room which overlooked the pool and one of the restaurants on property, Japengo.

lobby + atrium + garden
It became a two-day ritual for us to take a short walk past the regency club, and shoot more photos around the outside garden area every morning after breakfast. Not to be confused with the indoor garden area in the atrium.
Interior: Towards the public pool, just around the corner of the check-in desk, is a small area where penguins lounge all day. Inside the atrium also consists of small pineapple gardens (picturesque) and other variety of native flowers from Hawaii.
Exterior: Beyond the regency club, head down a windy but manageable path where wildlife in the form of swans, flamingos, and ducks waddle around. At night, the trail is lit by flame making it a romantic stroll through the premise.
restaurants on property
Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa offers a few dining options on their property such as Japengo, Umalu, Son’z Steakhouse, Grotto Bar, Swan Court Breakfast, Room Service, and Regency Club! You can make reservations at a few dining places, here.
hyatt regency club
To keep things short about the Hyatt Regency Club; we found ourselves here quite often but is an additional expense for access. The private lounge offers personal concierge service, continental breakfast every morning, refreshments and snacks throughout the day with light hors d’oeuvres and desserts in the evening. Keep an eye out on a separate post about the Regency Club as there is much to write about. We took rest breaks and ate here throughout the day in the lounge.

HOTEL ACTIVITIES
During our stay, we were able to do a few activities such as the daily Penguin Feeding and Romance Tour of the Stars. There are other activities at the resort such at the Drums of the Pacific Lu’au, Fitness Classes, Lei Making, and more! We really enjoyed the Romance Tour of the Stars, it’s a perfect night activity for couples and those who are interested in astronomy.
pools
There are six pool areas at Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa. With waterfalls, lava tube waterslides, whirlpool, rope bridge, basketball and volleyball area, and so much more! A few awesome standouts of the pool area despite it being huge are:
- Volleyball area – big enough for two sides with plenty of swimming room.
- Pool goes up to 9 feet deep (rare in our travels).
- Water-basketball.
- “Underground” pool bar (Grotto Bar)
- Child area
- Slides
- Jacuzzi
- Infinity pool on another half of the resort, adults only.
If you plan on staying pool and beach side all day at the resort, take advantage of their cabana rentals throughout pool area! We rented out a cabana close to the beach area with quick access to the beach! Perfect spot to relax during your Maui trip while sippin’ on Mai Tai or Lava Flow!
We couldn’t make it to the Luau, but hanging out in the beachfront Hyatt Regency Maui Resort & Spa cabana was a wonderful experience and despite Landon missing out, we can foresee ourselves visiting it as a proper family in the near future. The pools were grand, the beach was clean and calling out names from the open balcony view. Finally, relaxing in the hammock made us fall into bliss as we captured gorgeous sunsets and sunrises. Absolutely phenomenal stay. If you’re considering the Hyatt Regency Maui Resort & Spa, you’re treating you and your family to its own adventure!
