On March 25, 2020, Hawaii Governor announced a statewide ‘stay-at-home’ order to flatten the curve of the coronavirus pandemic. A ‘stay-at-home’ order means everyone should remain at home and away from other people unless it’s absolutely necessary to go out. Which means everyone other than essential workers will be staying home. Although it is a ‘stay-at-home’ order, there are certain activities you can do outdoors. Here are some activities we have been doing outside:

GET READY TO WORK AT-HOME

As for clothing, I change out of the pajamas but like to keep it casual and comfortable – similar to a workout attire: top, leggings, and shoes. I originally ordered the Jambu Free Spirit Encore Vegan shoes from Zappos for traveling because of the comfortability. Since traveling will not be happening anytime soon, I have been wearing it at home and when doing essential errands. The shoes are available in Black/Petal, Taupe/Peach Nectar, and Denim/Illusion Blue. I went with the Taupe/Peach Nectar. As a Zappos Rewards member, I earn points redeemable for VIP codes and the best part – free expedited shipping for every order. Also, Zappos offers 24/7 customer service and 365 day return policy! It is free and easy to join the Zappos Rewards program.

When looking for comfortable shoes on Zappos, I went with Jambu because of the large selection from shoes, boots, heels, wedges, and sandals. Jambu uses only 100% recycled, recyclable and reusable packaging. While I picked the Jamba Free Spirit Encore Vegan shoes for traveling, it can also be used as water shoes – nice for beach days! It has a stretchy design, breathable fabric lining, memory foam footbed for comfort, and grippy outsole for traction. All Jambu shoes have a microban antimicrobial treatment which helps keep odors at bay, and promotes a cooler, drier feel.

GARDEN

Gardening is not cancelled. One of our new favorite outdoor activities is planting. Plus with all that is going on now, there’s no better wake up call/opportunity than to learn how to properly grow your own food! We have plans for our garden and have been slowly checking things off. We want to be able to plant, grow, and harvest our own herbs such as basil (which we discovered help thwart pesty flies!), mint, green onions, cilantro, and much more. This list of fruits and vegetables are endless! If you have been wanting to start a garden, now is the perfect time!

WALKING THE DOGS + EXERCISE

Since the gym and fitness clubs are closed, it doesn’t mean the workouts have to stop! There are many resources online offering free at-home workouts which can be done in your bedroom, living room, backyard, or garage. Other ways to stay active outside is by jogging, walking, or taking the dogs out, as long as you are practicing proper social distancing. Social distancing requirement is to keep 6 feet of physical distance between all people at all times.

If you are an essential worker reading this, thank you for working through this time. If you are one of us, who is working from home, we hope you found this helpful on things you can do outdoors. Until then, stay safe and healthy friends!
