Welcoming the new year at Alyeska starting off wonderful as we also welcomed our eleventh anniversary! Sakura Asian Bistro was easily located in the hotel which meant we could let loose a little more. At the time of the dinner, months had passed since I tasted ambrosial fresh catch from the sea.
Sakura was the perfect destination for such cravings! The menu is simple but they offer a few select choices of sake and Japanese Whiskey. You can choose to sit at the sushi bar or dining area which you sit across other people – traditional Japanese style, without being on the grown.
We started off our anniversary right with a Reisling ($12) and Yamazaki 18 year whiskey ($28) to celebrate.
When there are flight drinks available, we like to try it. The Sake Flight gave a sample of three different Sakes. The Hakutsuru Superior JunMai Ginjo was the best.
For an appetizer, we got the Shrimp Tempura. $16 – The shrimp were a bit small for the price.
Spicy Tuna ($15) – I loved this plate so much that another order was made the following day after a full day of snowboarding! Best meal to eat after body exhaustion on the slopes!
One of our favorite sushi rolls – Dynamite Roll ($16) Our favorite part was the crispiness on the outside! Mary had to order another roll for dinner the next day; we couldn’t get enough!
Chef’s Special veggie roll – The waitress mentioned that the chefs love making special rolls that are not on the menu so we decided to try it out!
I’m willing to say that Sakura is the best sushi spot within the Anchorage to Alyeska region. If you’re in Alaska and just want tasty, yummy, delicious, sushi, then head on over to Alyeska and visit Sakura Asian Bistro!
