Whenever we have family or friends visiting, we also feel like visitors in our own home. While we were driving around the east side (or southeast) of the island, we decided to stop for lunch as soon as possible as we were getting hungrier. This eventually led us to try out Ono Steaks & Shrimp Truck for the first time!
Ono Steaks and Shrimp Shack is located in Waimanalo, Hawaii. When you’re driving on Kalanianaole Hwy., it’s hard to spot since it’s behind another restaurant, called Keneke’s. We were actually going to eat at Keneke’s (another personal favorite of ours) because it’s another known local spot. However, we decided to check out the “yellow” restaurant. Very happy we did as it was fantastic!
There’s a parking area specifically at Ono Steaks and Shrimp Shack. Which makes it very easy for customers. It can accommodate up to 10 vehicles.
They have an indoor and outdoor seating but when we came during the weekday which is why the restaurant looked empty. We’re not sure if this place gets packed during the weekend’s, but there’s plenty of seating all around! We enjoyed our plate lunches outside in their beautiful patio area.
As for their food, they have plate lunches with pretty hefty portions! If you like rice, then you’re in for a treat because they serve lots of it! This one is the Garlic Mahi, this was heavy on the garlic, and it was so delicious! Every plate is served with two scoops of rice and potato-macaroni salad or tossed salad.
Another dish we ordered was the Coconut Shrimp. It’s been awhile since we had a delicious coconut shrimp plate, our favorite was from Macky’s Shrimp Truck in Haleiwa, which is now closed. This tasted exactly the same, and we’re ecstatic to know we can get some from here! If there’s one dish we crave monthly, it’s coconut shrimp, and they’ve exceeded our expectations!
After having a meal here, we’ll be back to sample more dishes! I love that they have traditional Hawaiian food and regular local plate lunches. The price is reasonable for the amount of food too! This will be on our top list to recommend when it comes to local food places!
