If you are heading to Whistler from Vancouver or vice versa, a sure stop to be should be the Sea To Sky Gondola located in Squamish. Opportunities for breathtaking views, hiking trails further into the mountain, eateries and other various activities can be found here.
We stopped to purchase coffee and a bagel before heading into the gondola at their little cafe at the base (where the parking is). As we ascended, we sipped on our warm coffee and enjoyed the 10-minute ride which kept presenting a grand view. The gondolas are stroller and wheelchair accessible and can seat up to eight people making it ideal for all ages of all capabilities.
After getting to the top, we were greeted with magnificent views of Howe Sound, beautiful coastal regions and snow capped peaks. Also, a suspension bridge is there and once crossing lies more trails that you can walk through.
The bridge is not empty, but there are opportunities when the bridge was clear of anyone. Although, this could depend on the season of your visit. We also didn’t see the beautiful view of Howe Sound or the coastline once on top of the mountain but what we experienced was just as magical: walking through clouds.
Peaceful walks, scavenger hunts for children, gateways to the backcountry, snow shoe routes and a small tube park can be found throughout the area. There are camp sites located throughout the area, the further you go as well (not necessarily apart of the Sea To Sky area). The potential for outdoor lovers are numerous!
There are different things to do according to season; be aware of when you plan on visiting! Also, at the parking lot (the Sea to Sky Gondola office) there is another side trail that leads to Shannon Falls. Overall, this little spot is a great detour to take with incredible experiences waiting to be had. To young children or the experienced mountaineer, the Sea To Sky Gondola offers a multitude of activities for all to enjoy!
