#REIDREADS

Coming into the new year, I finished terrific books that aided me to move through life in a more fulfilling manner. At the risk of sounding arrogant, I felt the need to share these books that have helped me grow or, maybe fell flat or was counter informative to other reads:

#REIDREADS posts are dedicated to books I’ve read via Kindle, physical copy or my personal favorite (because you can speed up the reading), Audible, in a no bullshit-cut-to-the-point (biased) review at the end of every month.

“The best investment you can EVER make is in yourself.”

1. The Daily Stoic: 366 Meditations on Wisdom, Perseverance, and the Art of Living.

The Daily Stoic
The Daily Stoic

– Ryan Holiday, Stephen Hanselman
[10 hrs and 9 mins]

This is one I will be listening to throughout the year. A daily devotional/powerful quotes to help you think and act like the boss you are. It is a very repeatable book for years to come

2. The Science of Enlightenment [Teachings & Meditations for Awakening through Self-Investigation]

The Science of Enlightenment

Shinzen Young bridges science and enlightenment through sound explanations that have the ability to increase a more involved-self meditation sessions, no matter what level you believe to be at as a meditator. One of the best-guided meditation books I’ve read.

3. Self Reliance

-Ralph Waldo Emerson
[1 hr 20 mins]

Self-Reliance
Self-Reliance

Another repeatable listen as it is only one hour long. What makes this book a stand out is that Ralph Waldo Emerson was teaching similar beliefs before any of the presents, ever-popular “think-your-way-to-success” became prevalent. This is a book that still stands true today which gives weight to the words in this read.

4. You Are A Writer

-Jeff Goins
[2 hrs and 10 mins]

You Are A Writer
You Are A Writer

As with all things in my life, I continue to strive to be the best and writing is no different. This was my first step toward the education of real writing but was disappointed as it was more of a “you can do it, just commit” type of book. Worth it for people who haven’t found their calling and committed to something fulfilling.

Available in: Kindle $2.99 || Paperback $6.13 || Audiobook Free with Audible

5. Universal Laws

– Zhen Kung
[1 hr and 6 mins]

Universal Laws
Universal Laws

In all honesty, the same repeating nature sounds could be found on youtube with more variety of tracks. It’s a guided meditation but I’ll state it again: you can find the same type of content for FREE ON YOUTUBE along with better quality!

Available in: Kindle $9.99 || Audiobook Free with Audible

6. The Body Keeps The Score

– Bessel Van der Kolk, MD
[16 hrs and 17 mins]

The Body Keeps The Score
The Body Keeps The Score

An incredible look at how our body-mind connection affects our lives permanently. What I got out of it is that our mind has the absolute power to overcome most (if not ALL) diseases and sicknesses. Even though tragedies happen in an instant, it is our mind that convinces are body it is hurt, forever.

For January 2018, I was able to finish 6 books with The Science of Enlightenment being my favorite. I am currently reading (audible listening to) Mindsight – The New Science of Personal Transformation, and plan to finish a few more interesting reads about the body.
