If you currently are or will be visiting and want to get away from the crowded beaches while enjoying the plethora of water activities, a great place to experience them in tranquility can be accessed via Kualoa Ranch on ‘The Secret Island’.
After checking in at Kualoa Ranch we boarded a bus that dropped us off in front of the docks (located on private property) where we would take a ride across a pond to reach the final destination.
The catamaran is able to seat approximately 30 people with all their bags comfortably.
It’s about a 10 minute ride or less to reach the other side. The pond is most likely a fishery to rehabilitate the surrounding wildlife where many species of birds and fish can thrive. However, not much was said about this; the ride was very quiet and comfortable. People do not access the area everyday, making the sights much more thrilling – people just accepted nature’s view in all it’s glory. The view was phenomenal.
From relaxing in a private hammock to paddle boarding, kayaking, snorkeling, ping pong, and volleyball, the island has it all. After taking a swim, you can have lunch under the pavilions, or feel free to use the shower and change in the clean bathrooms! The amenities are great and friendly staff are at the ready if you need assistance with any of the activities.
As a tourist, I would recommend this location if you want to enjoy water activies with a peace of mind. The water is very calm, the beach/sand is clean, and the best part is that there are only as many people who rode with you on the catamaran. That being said, you are only allowed there for about three hours.
As a local, Every activity on this Secret Island can be found elsewhere on Oahu and, apart from the initial purchase of your water ‘tool’, it’s ultimately free. You are paying for the seclusion and uniqueness of the area. There are better (free) places to do these activities but again: Great services, great facilities, activities, and location for what it’s worth. A different experience not many people (locals and tourist) experience.
