Social Media can be quite convincing and when virtual images meet reality, we hope for it to be worth it. Because of social media, Mary heard about the sustainable impact and award-winning hospitality that the chain Six Senses have been recognized for and compelled us to work with them. Fortunately, when we were planning a long and enduring month trip to Asia, we found that one of our stops (Singapore) had Six Senses hotels which quickly narrowed down to where we would be staying in Singapore.

There are two hotels that makeup Six Senses Singapore which is Six Senses Duxton and Six Senses Maxwell. During our time in Singapore, we stayed at Six Senses Maxwell which is set in a block of heritage ‘shophouses’ in Chinatown. The shophouses have been beautifully restored to its original grandeur with interiors by French designer, Jacques Garcia. 138 guestrooms and suites, restaurant and bars, spa, yoga, and other experiences for the mind, body, and soul.
Side note: Heritage buildings/Shophouses in Singapore are charming historic structures that are repurposed into hotels, stores, and other popular places.
CHECKING-IN EXPERIENCE
The most unique welcome we’ve had at a hotel! When we checked-in, we received refreshing welcome drinks. However, Six Senses goes above and beyond when it comes to welcoming you – they incorporate a singing bowl. You stand in a cylinder bow that is as deep as our ankles, close your eyes, and one of the staff will welcome you with beautiful sounds of the singing bowl. It felt as if we were stepping into a place of rejuvenation and restoration. The science of healing through vibration is alive and well at Six Sense! Indubitably, the most wonderful welcome!
SIX SENSES SUSTAINABILITY
We have never met a hotel chain that emphasizes sustainability in every small way possible! Six Senses is setting standards from all of the other hotels we’ve stayed at and have been for about a decade now. As the world gets warmer and people begin to wake up to our human impact, Six Senses is a glimmer of what humanity can strive for in sustainability. From recycling pens to growing their garden, or even their 120-day biodegradable toothbrush, we are overwhelmed with wanting to support Six Senses!

DINING
“The casually elegant Six Senses Maxwell restaurants and bars cater to all tastes and palates. Spearheaded by Chef Ian Mancais, the main restaurant is inspired by Southern European cuisine and features a healthful brasserie menu. Overall, the venues span the ground floor of the building, occupying the former Murray Terrace Food Alley to restore the former well-known dining destination, while creating a bustling and convivial atmosphere with guests spilling outdoors into the unique five-foot way.” Six Senses Maxwell Dining
Cook & Tras Social Library is where we ate breakfast and all the other dining spot on the property were temporarily closed for renovation. However, guests are also more than welcome to head to Six Senses Duxton for Chinese cuisine at ‘Yello Pot‘.
EXPERIENCES
Six Senses Maxwell is near Architectural history and convenient to wander the streets of Singapore’s China Town. Acclaimed street food is just across the street, top local bars around for drinks, and enchanting Historic Walks!
If it feels too hot to walk around, relaxing at one of Six Senses Maxwell five spa pods maybe be a better option. At the spa, experience holistic wellness of mind body and soul through the delivery of an expert therapist.
Outside is a bar and lounge area with a few places to sunbathe and practice yoga. The lap pool and modern gym are convenient alternatives to push the body, maintain the mind, and bring awareness back to the soul.
Being welcomed with vibrations of a singing bowl, educated on sustainability, a practical hotel, Six Senses stands for something more than “vacation” and “stop-through”. Six Senses is a top destination to visit because it reminds us that we all have a part to play in the big scheme of things. We are here to experience with awareness and Six Senses brings us back to that, back to what’s important: Mind-body soul connection, and with these aligned, we can help heal and save the Earth.
