Being that we have summer weather all year round in Hawaii, I often have my beach bag ready to go! Whenever we do make it to the beach, Reid and Landon are usually surfing for a couple of hours which means I have to be prepared by packing all of the essentials! Take a look at what I bring with me to the beach; hopefully, this will help you prepare your bag for the next beach day.
1. BEACH BAG
When it comes to beach bags, I look for large ones that can fit everything I need. This one is my favorite at the moment. It holds all of our things and the print it extremely cute! For the items inside the bag, I keep everything organized which makes it easily accessible. Also, it’s organized in categories from body care, sun care, entertainment, and snacks. All perfect essentials for the beach!
2. MICROFIBER TOWEL
Of course, I always carry a towel to the beach. I prefer a decent sized blanket that serves as a towel to dry off or sit on, specifically one made of microfiber. A microfiber towel is great because it dries quickly!
3. DEODORANT
The deodorant I use is Tom’s of Maine® Long Lasting Deodorant in Natural Powder. Reid and Landon have their own Tom’s of Maine deodorant too! The reason why we switched to a natural deodorant is not only because it’s great for the environment and smells ambrosial, it’s a great alternative to other unsafe-chemically infused brands. We have transitioned to other Tom’s of Maine products from personal and oral care which are free of artificial colors, flavors, fragrances, preservatives and they do not test their products on animals. The Tom’s of Maine® Long Lasting Deodorant in Natural Powder smells fantastic and it gives 24-hour odor protection! We buy our Tom’s of Maine deodorants from Target.
4. sunscreen, lip balm & hair protection
There’s nothing worse than getting a sunburn. From sunscreen, lip balm, to protective oil spray. For our family, I make sure to bring the goods such as reef-friendly sunscreen and lip balm with SPF. Extra protection from the sun is vital from the summer sun! Since I color my hair, I have my protective oil spray which has Ylang-Ylang wax that shields hair against the drying and damaging effects of UV rays, salt, sand, and chlorine. It’s free of Paraben, Silicone, MIT, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS). I love that it is a biodegradable, plant-based formula!
5. hat & sunglasses
Along with sun care products are also physical accessories you can wear for sun protection. Such as polarized sunglasses that protects your eyes from the sun (and highlights the beautiful colors of your views). Any type of hat will help give extra protection from the sun. My hats usually range from a baseball hat or a sizeable floppy hat depending on the weather or how windy it may be.
6. entertainment
To keep myself entertained at the beach, I have my airpods (or portable Bose speaker), phone, and camera. A phone is essential because I can access social media or audible while Reid and Landon are out surfing. Also, something we never forget, a camera to capture fun moments at the beach.
7. snacks & water
We can never go anywhere without our hydro flasks! It keeps our ice from melting, giving us a refreshing source of hydration for hours. Another thing we can’t go anywhere without, snacks! Being at the beach for hours will make anyone hungry. These are my essentials for my beach bag. As you may have noticed, most of the items are eco-friendly as we try to be more conscious of what we use in our daily life and near our oceans; especially in light of the new ban on harmful sunscreen that are bleaching our coral reefs throughout the world. Sunscreens that have the ingredients known as oxybenzone and octinoxate will no longer be allowed for distribution in the State of Hawaii in hopes to restore critically damaged reef and set a precedent for the rest of the U.S. Hopefully, this post inspires you to re-pack your beach bag in a more organized, carbon-neutral way!
